At the edge of a cornfield in Accord sits an unassuming cinder block building; the studio of one of the Hudson Valley's most original makers. For one day in June, we stepped inside the space of sculptor and furniture artist Kieran Kinsella, whose work blends primitive form with masterful technique.
We gathered as a small group at Kieran’s studio for a quiet morning of creative connection, heard the story behind his work as well as saw various demos of the process of transforming massive logs into detailed works of functional art. After spending the morning learning first-hand how his one-of-a-kind pieces come to life, we had a delicious taco lunch and took part in our own hands-on sculpting activity.
The session was structured around engaging in a lively group conversation with our host on topics including the nature of working in creative fields, the contrast between hand work and digital design and fabrication and the fortuitous moments that help shape our personal journeys.
This was the first of our new In Practice series: exploring spaces, people and ideas that illuminate how creative work and careers take shape in the Hudson Valley.
This event is SOLD OUT.
