IN PRACTICE: A StüdiVisit with Kieran Kinsella
Overview
At the edge of a cornfield in Accord sits an unassuming cinder block building; the studio of one of the Hudson Valley's most original makers. For one day in June, we're stepping inside the space of sculptor and furniture artist Kieran Kinsella, whose work blends primitive form with masterful technique.
Join a small group who will gather at Kieran’s studio for a quiet morning of creative connection. We’ll hear the story behind his work as well as see various demos of the process of transforming massive logs into detailed works of functional art. After spending the morning learning first-hand how his one-of-a-kind pieces come to life, we’ll take part in our own hands-on sculpting activity. We’ll wrap up the experience sharing a light group lunch together with Kieran.
The session will be structured around engaging in a lively group conversation with our host on topics including the nature of working in creative fields, the contrast between hand work and digital design and fabrication and the fortuitous moments that help shape our personal journeys.
